My Father Henry’s (Enrico) appreciation of fine wines turned into a unique hobby in my childhood basement.
(Enrico is the Italian form of Henry)With buckets of corks and templates strewn across his workbench, he handcrafted and signed each piece of his custom cork artwork.
After a long battle with cancer claimed his life, it now became my mission to continue his legacy and passion of handcrafting these pieces of art made from recycled corks.
With some time, extended effort, studying his notes and plenty of practice, the trivets and cork boards finally came up to my father’s standards to ensure the highest quality.
Each cork has it’s own story. They are from different wines, periods of time and different regions of the world. Wine also brought my father back to the time in which he served his country during World War II. He often told us 3 stories all involving WINE during several of his platoon missions. These stories are published in Wine Spectator Magazine in March, 2001, and to this day, I think my father’s love of wine and his creativity in his cork crafting started during this time.
Wine has always been a part of my family’s heritage and tradition. We even have an annual Gnocchi party and always share the fine wines amongst our family members.
I hope to pass this cork making down to future generation of the Gianadda family. It has already become a family affaire as members of my family use each of their talents to assist in some way.. Even our grand children help by sorting types and sizes of corks.
There are many day I feel my father’s presence in my own workshop and I feel he would be proud of not just the artwork but the family camaraderie, teamwork and unconditional love.
The business is named after my hero, my father, Enrico. He was the most genuine, hardworking, self started man I have ever known. He was a well known contractor who took great pride in numerous projects along with dedicating his time to his close knit family.
My father instilled his morals and values in all four of his children from early on. I am proud to say that I am able to sustain my father’s memory, his hobby and his beautiful masterpieces, all in my own basement workshop that is reminiscent of his own.
When you purchase one of our trivets, cork boards or art pieces, know that you are also buying a history, a family tradition, a memorable story and an effort to have ENRICO live on in fondness within each one of our memories.
